Back up and restore
An RGB wallet needs its local asset history as well as its keys. Save a full VOUT backup for every account and network you use, and refresh it after wallet activity. A recovery phrase remains useful, but cannot recreate missing RGB proofs from the Bitcoin blockchain.
Check release status for the recovery capabilities of your installed build. Keep the current app and its data until you have tested the recovery method you intend to rely on.
What each backup covers

The encrypted file is not a copy of every account on the phone. It does not include both networks or Chat. It also does not turn your custodial Lightning balance into locally recoverable funds; that balance depends on the VOUT service.
Some early VOUT wallets have a different recovery format. If the app says the wallet requires a full backup, preserve that archive rather than assuming a standard phrase import will recover it.
Export an encrypted backup
- Select the account and network you want to save.
- Open Settings → Face ID & passcode → Encrypted wallet backup. This leads to Backup & recovery.
- Choose Encrypted wallet backup again to open the export screen. Check the selected account shown at the top.
- Enter and confirm a separate password with at least 12 characters. The six-digit wallet passcode is not enough. VOUT does not store the backup password or recover it for you.
- Choose Create and share backup, authenticate, and save the file outside the phone.
Keep the password separately from the file. If file sharing was interrupted, use Share encrypted backup to save the archive that was created. A file left only inside VOUT will not help if the phone or its app data is lost.
If export is blocked by an unfinished operation or an RGB repair warning, preserve the app data and resolve that condition. Do not delete the wallet to make the warning disappear.
Check the file you saved
Under Check an exported backup, choose Choose backup file, enter the password for that file, and select Check backup file.
A successful check means the file passed local integrity and wallet-data checks. It does not synchronize with the network, activate a wallet, or prove a complete restore will succeed. It leaves the current wallet in place.
Restore on another device
Keep the old device offline before restoring an RGB wallet. Do not continue using two copies of the same RGB state.
On the destination device, choose the VOUT backup import flow, select the file, enter its password, and confirm The old wallet device is offline. Choose Restore wallet and wait for validation and activation to finish.
The backup must match the selected network. Restore does not merge with or overwrite an existing account of the same identity. If VOUT reports an invalid archive, unresolved payment, or failed validation, keep the file and the original device data and contact support.
After a successful restore, check the account, Bitcoin balance, RGB assets, and transfer records. Complete a small transfer you control before treating the recovery test as finished. Keep the backup afterwards.
